How large can a banner be — and how is it fixed?

A PVC banner is printed in one piece up to 3.2 m wide; above that, panels are high-frequency welded, practically invisibly — up to 50 m long and 5 m high. It is fixed through eyelets, as standard every 50 cm all round, with cable ties, bungee cords or rope; on site fences and scaffolding the wind-permeable mesh banner is the one to take.

The fixing

  • Eyelets: metal eyelets every 50 cm all round are the standard; closer on request. The edge is hemmed for them so the eyelet cannot tear out.
  • Bungee cords instead of cable ties where there is wind — they give, the banner flaps less and the eyelets last longer.
  • On a site fence: tie the eyelets to the bars, the banner lightly tensioned, never taut. Take the banner down in a storm — a site fence tips over otherwise.
  • On a wall: a banner with eyelets on hooks or plugged screws, or a banner frame with a tensioning cord for a changing display.

The print

UV-cured inks at 720–1440 dpi — weatherproof without a laminate. Text should stay at least 5 cm from the edge, because the hem and eyelets sit there; set up the print file at final size, at 1:10 for very large banners.

Questions

Do I need B1 (flame-retardant)?

Assembly venues, exhibition halls and some interiors require B1 — the material is available on request; please note it with the order.

Can you see the welded seam?

Not from a normal viewing distance; the panels are high-frequency welded, the seam is thin and usually runs horizontally.

Banner or mesh on scaffolding?

Mesh. It lets about 30 % of the wind through — on large free-standing surfaces that is decisive. Up close you see the fine hole pattern, from a distance the picture looks solid.

How far apart are the eyelets?

Every 50 cm all round as standard — enough for façades and fences; when a banner is tensioned between two posts, secure the corner eyelets twice.

Can a banner be printed on both sides?

For advertising read from both sides there is opaque blockout banner with double-sided print; a standard PVC banner is printed on one side and slightly translucent.
